It has finally become a reality. The ability to cut cable out of our lives here in Montesano. Goodby Xfinity, and good riddance.
A little over the top? Not as far as I am concerned.
We have been held hostage here in Montesano. A brutal expensive racket for far too long. We have had no ability to get any TV reception without cable, or a work around with affordable internet. Internet that was controlled due to our being remote and horribly expensive compared to the rest of the state.
High speed internet was in the hands of Xfinity, and of course the bundling with all the services that expire constantly and go up up up.
My personal cell phone, Internet, and basic cable, using Verizon for cell and Xfinity for the internet and cable was around $300.00 a month. Just one single phone line.

We all have been hearing rumors that the new Verizon Home Internet was finally hitting activation here in Montesano. They have been rolling it out city by city here in the harbor, and neighborhood by neighborhood. $24.00 a month, unlimited high speed internet. Unlimited with Verizon is unlimited. As I recently discovered unlimited isn’t unlimited with my old Xfinity cable/internet.
“Unlimited isn’t unlimited, it’s unlimited to the limit that is defined as the limit that unlimited can provide at the unlimited price. Any streaming past that is, of course, not unlimited, but limited by the time of unlimited use.”
A helpful guide to understanding my experience with Xfinity internet
What really got to me was the notice I got from Xfinity that I had used up my unlimited internet for the month a little while ago.

One too many Netflix movies. Ya, you read that right. They were going to charge me extra for the rest of the month with two weeks to go. I unplugged the boxes right then. Unlimited isn’t unlimited, it’s unlimited to the limit that is defined as the limit that unlimited can provide at the unlimited price. Any streaming past that is, of course, not unlimited, but limited by the time of unlimited use.
I hope that clears it up for you.
Well, the new Home Internet is here, and it works like a charm. I canceled my Xfinity, walked into Verizon and upgraded my phone to the 15 model, bought the new Home Internet package, a few add ons and walked out the door for about $125 a month for everything. Down from $300 a month. Of note, when turning in my cable box and modem to Xfinity they asked “Why?” I told them because they were greedy little bastards. And I meant it. And then of course, they said “well, let’s see if we can’t get your monthly bill down?” All phony friendly like. Bite me Xfinity.
Pro Tip: Make sure you take a picture of you turning in your cable box/modem to them.
REVIEW
The question is……..is the VERIZON HOME INTERNET as good?
I wanted to wait a bit….kick the tires, put it through its paces to see how good or isn’t good it is. I’ve used it now for a couple of months.
I’m here to tell ya folks, I can’t see any difference at all. That’s the extent of my technical experience in the investigation. I do heavy usage on Playstation, streaming Netflix etc, and see no difference at all streaming movies or playing games. The box is about the size of a small coffee pot. You plug it in. Type in the password into your devices after it boots up, and that’s it. Put it anywhere in your house. It’s all wireless.

I did lose the cable tv and thought I would miss the live news channels. Especially with major breaking news events. That was until I discovered that they stream live for free on my smart TV as well as Amazon Prime. All the stations. For nothing. Also for all the money you save it is pretty easy to justify buying a couple of the $10 a month subscriptions services to give you movie contest etc.
The price of the internet is locked in, and won’t go up. There are no two year contracts either.
Another note. The guy who set this all up for me at the Verizon store across from Walmart in Aberdeen was a guy named DAN. He gave me his business card and told me to call him if I had any concerns or questions. I didn’t believe a word of it of course. But I keep getting texts, even a voice mail, from him asking if everything is alright. If I ever want to talk, he Is there for me. Did you read that everyone…….HE IS THERE FOR ME! ME…… I’m sorry, I’m getting a little emotional. I have been ignored and in an abusive relationship with my cable provider for so long and this is just overwhelming.
It is my understanding that some of the other phone providers are now offering the home internet boxes. I can’t speak to the quality of their products. I might have been able to get that $125 a month for cell/internet etc down, who knows. I hear T-Mobile and Consumer Cellular are now offering similar devices for even less money. I just don’t know them and have always been with Verizon. Let me know on my X post and I will add your results here as well.
We have been ripped off for far too long here in town, but now we have choices.
